Industrial fire protection systems are passive infrastructure that must perform flawlessly on demand — after years of sitting dormant. A firewater system that fails to deliver adequate flow and pressure during an emergency has catastrophic consequences. MAC Industrial Services provides complete firewater piping services: new system installation, system extensions, riser and main replacement, sprinkler head maintenance, and testing and inspection programs aligned with NFPA 25 requirements.
Industrial firewater systems present unique construction challenges: large-diameter carbon steel headers, underground distribution mains, above-ground rack piping, deluge systems for equipment protection, foam-water systems for flammable liquid hazards, and the tie-ins to fire pumps, tanks, and municipal water supply that form the system backbone. MAC crews are experienced across all of these system types and the code requirements governing their installation and testing.
System integrity testing — including hydrostatic pressure testing, flow testing, and functional testing of detection and suppression systems — is a critical final step that MAC coordinates with client fire protection engineers and local AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) representatives. We document every test per NFPA 25 requirements and provide turnover packages that support the plant's ongoing inspection and testing program.

How often are industrial firewater systems required to be tested?
NFPA 25 establishes a tiered inspection and testing schedule: weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual, and 5-year testing requirements depending on the system component. Fire pumps are typically tested weekly for churn (no-flow) operation and annually for full-flow performance. MAC can develop and execute a complete NFPA 25 program to keep a facility in compliance.
Can MAC work on underground firewater mains without a facility shutdown?
Most underground main work requires temporary isolation of system segments, which is coordinated with the client's fire protection and safety teams. MAC develops isolation plans that minimize the time any portion of the facility is unprotected, and we coordinate with local fire departments when required by code or client policy.
